State of Connecticut Lemon Laws

The Connecticut Lemon Laws will protect consumers of new and used vehicles by providing legal guidelines when a vehicle possesses a significant warranty defect and in some cases a clear cut arbitration process. The Automobile Dispute Program of the Department of Consumer Protection will arbitrate a lemon law dispute In response to a valid consumer complaint.

State Covers

New Vehicles – The Connecticut Lemon Laws apply to new vehicles that are suffering from a debilitating warranty defect for the first twenty four thousand miles or twenty four months provided neither of these limits have expired. The vehicle must be a passenger vehicle and cannot seat more than ten people to qualify for such protection.

Used Vehicles – The Connecticut Lemon Laws require a dealer to provide a warranty for vehicles under seven years old. The protection period will depend upon the age of the vehicle. All vehicles older than seven years must be sold ‘as is’ and labeled as such.

Pets – The Connecticut Lemon Laws for Pets are applicable to dogs and cats. The newly purchased pet must be diagnosed as having a serious medical condition that would be costly and/or severely debilitating to the animal. Consumers are entitled to reimbursement and may choose to replace or return the animal.
