Delaware Pet Lemon Law

The Delaware Pet Lemon Law ensures the rights of consumers in the market for a new pet are protected. The Consumer Protection Division of the Department of Justice will enforce the Delaware Pet Lemon Laws.
Requirements
The pet owner must have a veterinarian document:
- an illness within twenty days of the date of sale
- a congenital or birth defect within 2 years of the date of sale
Rights
The pet owner is entitled to:
- obtaining the equivelent of the purchase price and returning the pet
- obtaining the equivelent of the purchase price and keeping the pet
- obatining the cost of medical care and medication
Limits
The reimbursed amount for medical care or medication may not exceed the purchase price.
